Bali Tropical Garden in Melissa Texas

Inspired by the lush tropical landscapes of Bali, this luxury estate in Melissa, Texas was envisioned as a multigenerational resort where family and guests could experience the feeling of an international retreat without leaving home. Although the primary pool concept was initiated by one of Dallas' premier custom pool builders, Original Landscape Concepts collaborated closely with their team to elevate the surrounding environment into a fully immersive tropical destination.

The property's dramatic natural grade change became one of its defining assets. The hillside was transformed into an amphitheater of cascading water, allowing waterfalls to emerge naturally from the landscape and flow effortlessly into the resort-scale swimming pool. Our focus was designing the surrounding gardens, water experiences, and destination spaces that unified the entire composition.

Below the main pool, an integrated koi pond provides a quieter, contemplative experience while maintaining a visual relationship with the pool above. A custom tea house retreat anchors the far end of the landscape, overlooking a sand island that creates an authentic tropical focal point. A graceful arched bridge finished with matte-textured, natural stone-colored stamped concrete connects the main terrace to the island, while a concealed waterslide built into the boulder formations delights younger generations without disrupting the natural appearance of the waterfalls.

Dense evergreen screening, layered tropical-inspired plantings, specimen palms, carefully placed pottery, and richly textured boulders soften the hardscape and create the feeling of a mature rainforest oasis. Every planting was composed to appear naturally established while framing long views across the water.
