Landscape design is where it all begins. Before a single plant goes in the ground or a stone is set, there is a master plan that organizes the entire property: the relationship between the house and the land, the flow from space to space, and the long-term vision for how everything fits together.
At Original Landscape Concepts, this is the foundation of our work, and it is what sets a fully designed landscape apart from a collection of individual projects and components.
Our process starts with listening and with a careful study of your property, including its grade, drainage, orientation, existing trees, and the architecture of the home. From there we develop a comprehensive design that integrates pools, outdoor living, hardscape, gardens, and lighting into one coherent plan. Thinking through the whole property at the outset prevents costly missteps later and ensures every element supports the others, whether the work is completed all at once or in phases over time.
Mike and David's experience in outdoor development dates back to the early 1980s, and they have designed and built some of the most distinctive properties in Dallas, from Preston Hollow and Highland Park to Westlake and Southlake.
Our team of contractors and internal crews synthesize concept to reality. Each project is different, and our process allows us to assemble a team of contractors alongside our highly skilled internal crew members, based upon the client's needs and budget and the unique opportunities and constraints of the property. Along with our team members we complete the process from conceptual designs to construction documents (as needed), permits, inspections, and final completion of the vision.

Our strength is the ability to guide every phase of a project, from initial concept and planning through construction and long-term landscape stewardship.
As the lead consultant and project manager, we develop the overall vision, coordinate the design disciplines, manage budgets and schedules, and oversee construction so every element is executed to the highest standard. When a project requires specialized architectural or engineering expertise, we collaborate with and direct a carefully selected network of licensed landscape architects and professional consultants who work in concert with our team.
This approach gives clients the benefit of specialized expertise while keeping a single point of accountability throughout the project. We stay actively involved in directing the implementation, so the original design intent, aesthetic vision, and quality standards are preserved from concept through completion.
