Southwest Xeriscape Garden in Preston Hollow Dallas Texas

This Preston Hollow landscape renovation displays Original Landscape Concepts' philosophy of respecting the history of an estate while thoughtfully introducing a fresh design vision. Rather than removing the family's expansive red brick veranda, our team embraced it as an important architectural element, creating a new Southwest-inspired garden that forms a beautiful transition between the terrace and the secluded pool beyond.

The design objective was to breathe new life into the property with subtle yet energetic materials that create a timeless Tuscan character layered with contemporary restraint. A hero-scale metal bowl planted with Whale Tongue Agave and sedums becomes the primary focal point, elevated on a charcoal Lueders stone plinth. Nearby, colorful tortilla stone frames a mature agave specimen, while an intentionally imperfect natural stone wall evokes the feeling of a historic garden that has evolved naturally over generations.

Contrasting Tejas black aggregate introduces a clean modern texture against the warmth of the masonry. Carefully curated boulders, culinary rosemary, blue salvias, dwarf bunny grasses with wheat-colored seed heads, and drought-tolerant companion plantings provide texture, fragrance, seasonal color, and lasting performance throughout the year.

By preserving the existing pool environment and concentrating the renovation on this important transition zone, Original Landscape Concepts created a destination garden that feels authentic, artistic, and connected to the family's history. It demonstrates how thoughtful landscape architecture can transform an estate without erasing the memories already rooted in the property.
