Located within the desirable Glen Ridge Estates enclave of Midway Hollow in Dallas, this Zero Lot Line Contemporary Pool project demonstrates how thoughtful landscape architecture and custom outdoor living design can transform a compact urban property into a sophisticated private retreat. Designed for empty-nester homeowners who frequently entertain visiting children, grandchildren, and friends, the project focuses on maximizing functionality, privacy, wellness, and visual impact within a highly constrained footprint.

Original Landscape Concepts approached this luxury landscape design-build project with a clear objective: create a resort-quality outdoor environment that feels significantly larger than the actual property while maintaining the clean architectural character of the contemporary residence. Every square foot of the landscape was carefully planned to provide multiple experiences without overcrowding the space.

The focal point of the design is a highly functional elevated plunge pool paired with a detached spa. Rather than dedicating valuable square footage to large furniture groupings, the spa was designed with integrated perimeter seat walls that dramatically increase guest capacity while preserving openness throughout the garden. The elevated pool structure, combined with oversized Lueders limestone walls, creates additional opportunities for casual seating and social interaction while reinforcing the contemporary architectural language of the home.

Flanking Trex deck platforms and broad architectural steps introduce movement through the landscape while providing informal gathering spaces. The decking and pool composition create a sequence of experiences that encourages circulation and interaction, making the garden feel dynamic despite its narrow dimensions.

Privacy was a critical component of the design. Special cultivar clumping bamboo was installed within fully engineered root-containment systems to create a dense living screen without the invasive characteristics associated with traditional running bamboo. These carefully selected plantings establish an elegant textural backdrop for the pool while providing urban buffering, privacy, and year-round greenery. The bamboo transforms neighboring views into a lush garden setting and creates the feeling of a secluded resort hidden within the city.

Landscape lighting plays a major role in the evening experience. Recessed lighting integrated into the architectural steps enhances safety while guiding movement through the elongated garden. Carefully positioned accent lighting highlights the bamboo, pool surfaces, architectural walls, and entertainment spaces, extending the functionality of the landscape long after sunset and creating a sophisticated nighttime atmosphere.

The arrival sequence was given equal importance. At the front entry, Original Landscape Concepts designed a tranquil water feature centered around a hand-carved basalt stone sourced from Bali. A soft-flowing copper water element creates gentle movement and sound while establishing an immediate sense of calm. Beyond its sculptural qualities, the fountain serves as a natural watering destination for songbirds and introduces a reflective, Zen-inspired experience to the home's narrow entrance garden.

Throughout the project, the design balances luxury, simplicity, and practicality. Every material, planting selection, and architectural feature was chosen to maximize enjoyment while minimizing maintenance. The result is a contemporary outdoor living environment that feels intimate, elegant, and highly functional for both everyday living and multigenerational entertaining.
